The vehicle in question was described as a silver or gray Toyota Rav4 with its lights off. A concerned citizen reported observing the male driver, who attempted to hide his face as they passed by. The vehicle was possibly bearing a South Carolina license plate.
Deputies promptly arrived and patrolled the neighborhood; however, the vehicle had already left the area before their arrival. At around 6:26 a.m., deputies received a call regarding a runaway juvenile from Riverchase Drive. The juvenile, identified as 12-year-old Sophi Halsey, had reportedly left her residence.
Preliminary investigations revealed Halsey had been in online communication with an adult male, later identified to be the driver of the suspicious vehicle as reported earlier. Later that evening, Madison County authorities/FBI coordinated with law enforcement agencies in South Carolina, who successfully located Holland and Halsey at an address in Columbia, South Carolina. Halsey was safely recovered, and Holland was taken into custody. Michael Holland is currently being detained in Columbia, South Carolina, pending extradition to Madison County, Tennessee. He faces initial charges of Especially Aggravated Kidnapping, Harboring a Runaway, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office thanks the CARD, TBI, FBI, the Jackson Police Department and South Carolina law enforcement for their invaluable assistance and commitment to ensuring Halsey’s safe recovery.
