JACKSON, TN – McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport (MKL) will honor the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th attacks with a remembrance program and moment of silence on Wednesday, September 11th. The ceremony will be led by Kevin McCarthy, the TSA Deputy Federal Security Director for Tennessee. Opening remarks, and commentary will begin at 7:30 AM, followed by a moment of silence at 7:45 AM.

MKL and TSA personnel, along with members of the Madison County Fire Department, and Madison County Sheriff’s Department, will gather for this solemn occasion. The public is invited to join in the remembrance of the lives lost and the resilience shown on that fateful day. This event offers an opportunity for the community to come together to reflect on the impact of 9/11 and to honor the memory of those who were affected.

Steve Smith, Executive Director of the Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority, emphasized the importance of the commemoration: “September 11th is a day that changed our nation forever. It is crucial that we come together to remember those who lost their lives and to honor the heroes who emerged during that difficult time. We invite the community to join us in this moment of reflection and unity.”
