The Union University softball posted a doubleheader sweep over Christian Brothers University Saturday at Fesmire Field. Union improved to 17-13 on the season and 10-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers dropped to 6-21 overall and 1-12 in league play. 

In the second game, most of the action took place in the seventh inning with both teams posting dramatic rallies. With Union leading 2-0 in the top of the seventh with two outs, CBU posted four straight hits. The hits came from the 6-9 hitters in the lineup, including a 3-run home run from Simpson to give CBU a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Morgan Jennings led off with a walk and then stole second base. Macey Neal doubled in Jennings to tie the game. After a sacrifice by Idalia Alarcon moved Macey Neal to third, Zoey Neal drove in her sister for the winning run on a successful squeeze play. Addison Abell tossed 6.2 innings, allowing 8 hits and three runs with four strikeouts and no walks. She was lifted in the seventh when Emily Claire Felder (4-2) came in to get the final out. Zoey Neal led Union with two hits and two RBI including a solo home run and the game winning RBI. 

Game was controlled by Union all the way. Union scored in each inning except the fifth. Union scored twice in the first and one each in the second, third, fourth, and sixth innings. Mackenzie David capped the scoring with a solo home run in the sixth. Macey Neal led with a 3-for-4 game and two RBI. Alarcon and Courtney Marler added two hits each. Marler posted a pair of RBI in the first inning to get Union started. Riley Vaughn (8-4) got the win with a complete game, allowing three hits, two runs, with 13 strikeouts. She pitched around three walks and four hit batters. 

The series will conclude March 26 at 1 p.m. at Union’s Fesmire Field.
