The Union University women’s golf team posted an eighth place finish at the 2023 Gulf South Conference Championships. The three-round event took place at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Ala. and featured nine teams with 45 golfers. 

Union finished with a 973, +109 (346, 320, 320). Lee University won the event with an 883, +19. Montevallo was second, West Georgia third, West Florida fourth, Shorter fifth, Christian Brothers sixth, Spring Hill seventh, and Mississippi College ninth. 

Aubrie Cagle led Union with a T28 finish at 239, +23 (82, 76, 81). West Florida’s Alia Scotka won the championship with a 212, -4. She was the lone player under par in the event. 

Union’s Cecily Berry was T35, 244, +28 (86, 77, 81), Nicole Taylor 37th, 247, +31 (84, 81, 82), Brooklyn Verdugo 38th, 248, +32 (84, 76, 88), and Kallie Robertson 41st, 252, +36 (84, 83, 85). 

Union ended its season after posting three runner-up finishes this season. Individually, freshman Brooklyn Verdugo won her first event of her career at nationally ranked West Florida’s tournament.
