The Union University men’s golf team posted a third-place finish at the Buccaneer Spring Classic hosted by Christian Brothers University. The 3-round event was played at the Irene Golf and Country Club and featured nine teams with 55 golfers.

Union’s JJ Zimmer finished second with a 7-under 209 (71, 71, 67). His 67 in the final round was the low score of the round. Gray Campbell finished third with a 5-under 211 (71, 71, 69). Both were named all-tournament. Zimmer was just one shot behind the winner, CBU’s Caleb Bop at 8-under.

Union, ranked No. 48 nationally, was third behind No. 6 Grand Valley State’s 849. Union shot an 874 (296, 291, 287), improving all three rounds.

Union head coach Ryan Chandler said, “I am very proud of our teams. Both teams continue to be in contention this spring and we are so close! We definitely had some great individual performances on both sides, including JJ and Gray finishing second and third will continue to boost their confidence. I think if we continue to find ways to get off to good starts and finish rounds, we will have more opportunities to get it done.”

Trey Tidwell finished T18 with a 227 (80, 73, 74), Blake Wolfe finished T23 with a 228 (75, 76, 77), Timothy Pinkston finished T38 with a 238 (79, 77, 82), and Kip Patterson, playing as an individual, finished T47 with a 257 (87, 85, 85).

Up next for Union will be the Rogers State (Oklahoma) University Invitational March 13-14.
